Here's the deal:
1st of all, I'm "RSTSpeed" on CL and SELOC.net.
I've got a "spare" GE sitting in my garage with tranny right now. Tranny was pulled cuz it needs clutch packs, and it was cheaper to buy a used one and slap it in. Engine was pulled due to crank rattle and some smoking on start up.
I'd like to rebuild the engine, and to my knowledge, I'd need (at the very least):
-piston rings
-main bearings
-rod bearings
-rear main seal
-oil pan gasket
-head gasket
I'm hoping the pistons and cylinder walls are in good shape, so I should be able to just have the black cleaned and honed and be ready to build.
Other than a dealer, is there any place to get that stuff at a DECENT price? I checked a dealer site (Carson Toyota, I think it was) and the main bearings were $230!!
Now, if/when I get aroudn to this, I'd LIKE to make it a 1.5JZ (2J bottom end, 1J head). Where can I get JUST a 1JZ head, intake/exhaust manifolds, and ECU? Would it be cheaper/easier to just find a cheap 1JZ motor and pull off what I need?
As for turbos, etc., I think I have a buddy selling a bunch of turbo stuff that I can Buy from him, so that shouldn't be that big of an issue.
Any help, input, or info is greatly appreciated!!
