oil question

I was wondering if anybody knew if the 2JZ is known for burning oil? It seems to me that right before my next oil change is due (I do mine every 3000 miles), my oil light comes on. I have checked for any possible leaks and have found nothing. Is anybody else having this same problem?

That sounds like a signifigant amount. The valve stems seals are known to leak on older engines. I loose a little myself, but not as much as you have described. Loosing oil that quickly through the combustion chamber, you'll certainly be seeing some smoke from the exhaust.

I loose about a quart every oil change. I've had new valve stem seals put in and don't see any smoke at all. I don't have any drips on my garage floor either so I have no idea were it is all going. :dunno:
