It's well known, thanx to DaveH and other well known members, that the 2jzge motor can be swapped to a distributorless setup by using the 7M-GTE CPS, 2JZ-GTE coil-packs and ignitor, with an AEM or standalone to control it all.

Tecnically you are still using a distributor of some sort, it's just lower profiled for more room to fit the turbo / intake.

The 2JZGE 97-98 oil pumps seem to be exactly the same as the 93-96 pumps, it just setup to support a crank position signal. Furthermore the TT pumps should be the same as well. The 2JZ-GTE or OBD2 2jz-GE crankshaft timing pulley would need to be installed to get the crank position sensor to work.

So...say if you took a OBD1 2jzge, equiped it with the GTE coil packs, ignitor and standalone...but instead of the CPS, swapped out the oil pump for a 97 GE or any GTE oil pump and wired in a crank position sensor??

Wouldn't this work as well?

If so, this would provide the option to swap out BOTH cams for different ones. So this would remove the nasty distributor allowing for easier turbo setups with larger intakes, cleaner look, and more upgrade options to the GE head

Well, nevermind. Unless you want to machine the head for the cam shaft position sensors into a GE head, this really would only work if you used a VVTi head and just un-vvti the head and keep the DIS setup.

I dont think you would need the crank position sensor if you were using the cam position sensor and the AEM. This is the route that im going.

Yea, I know that. I was just wondering if using a Crank position sensor alone would work. Not having the cam position sensor ( wether it be a 7M CPS on a 2jzGE or converting to a VVTi head with a CPS in the head ) is what I am trying to see if it would work.

Ok...update.

The GTE coil packs do not fit under the NA stock intake. The coil pack connectors are in the way.

I am now going with 2002 IS300 NA VVTi coil packs ( the same on the 98 NA MKIV VVTi setup ) and ignitor with the 7M replacing the distributor for cam position. I am picking up the coilpack and ignitor from a junkyard with 14K miles on the engine. They are also cutting some of the electrical harness off at the coil packs and ignitor at no extra cost....sweet ;)

More updates later

The NA VVTi coil packs fit just under everything really sweet. This should work out really great with the AEM.

So how are you working in the cam position sensor? I am thinking you still need at least one in order for it to work with the AEM.

The 7M CPS bolts right where the distributor goes, and provides a cam signal for the ecu.

what about upgrading my existing coil packs?
