Here's a fact: Supra na mkiv w58 tranny is exactly the same as the SC300 1995-2000 w58. However, the SC300 92-94 uses a different w58 tranny, because the shifter is different in length. Now if you use a SC300 95+ or MKIV w58 tranny on the SC300 92-94 models, you will most likely have to cut the trans tunnel to correct the fitment. This particular w58 will be 3 inches longer on the shifter area.

Now my question is, say I'm able to get a hold of a w58 tranny from the SC300 1993, and use it on my SC300 1992 for a 5spd conversion, would I still need to cut the trans tunnel. Or would this simply be a straight bolt on. I know the shifter will line up perfectly to the center console being the fact that it's a 92-94 tranny.

Tranny is the same, tailshaft is different.

And the answer to your question is Yes. The early-model W58 should fit just fine on a 92.

Good to see you bean. So the tail shaft is different? Does this mean the sc300 5spd drive shaft won't be able to bolt up due to lenth issues. I was thinking that since the w58 is so hard to get a hold of from the sc300, I would get the tranny from the supra, and just modify the trans tunnel. What can I do now bean? I have a 5spd drive shaft sitting in my garage from the sc300.

I guess I'm not understanding your question at all then.

Here's the straight dope

NO the Supra W58 will not work with the earlier model (92-94) SC300s without some tranny modification. The driveshaft bolts in the same location BUT you need the SC300 shaft for the SC300.

YES the 93 SC300 W58 will work with a 92 SC300 without need for any modification. YES the driveshaft will bolt up from an SC300 no matter the year. No you cant use a Supra driveshaft.

You can make the W58 from the Supra fit, just takes a little work.... you'll need to cut a new shifter position I'm pretty sure.

Sorry for my answers being like that... been a long day in Waveland, MS

I didn't think the SC 300 came with the 5 speed after '95?
