When you put your key in ignition, does the gauge go from 14.xx to 15.xx....16.xx....17.xx.....and the - - - ? mine does that even when my car is driving around. sometimes the readings would jump around, and then most of the time it stays in the - - - zone. I mean the engine's at 2500 rpm, I should at least see a value between 11 and 18, correct?
i did mount my sensor at the bottom, not at the top. It's further down the DP, about 24" away from the turbine.

sounds like you have a bad sensor. Call AEM, I think they will agree. And hopefully a replacement will bei n the mail at no charge.

Mark: that's why i'm so confused...my car smells rich but the sensor says lean.
Also, when i let in a small vacuum leak, I can't smell the richness anymore, and runs better. Someone suggested that my TB is closed down too much at idle, is this a problem with the TPS or just tune?

To find out if the patient has a fever you need a thermometer, right? Fix your instrument first, then you can diagnose the car. If you smell the car running pretty rich, and the WB is saying lean, there is a problem with the gauge. Call AEM, this is a common problem.

You got a bad gauge or your setting is wrong on your widsband. If you turn the ignition on without cranking the engine and watch the gauge, does it display a P00 or what does it show?

P00, and then displays 14.8...and then it'll move itself all the way from 15.xx to 17.xx and then - - - .
i'm calling aem right now, brb.
edit: going to check if the sensor's bad. they think it's a bad sensor.

Did you figure it out? What was it?

i had a problem with mine. It would read normal afr's for the first 10min. then after that while driving it would read P02 and P03 whenever it felt like it, then go back to reading afr's then go back to P02 and P03 codes. I had my power and ground connected to my stock clock location, but i also had my boost gauge power source connected into it also. So i went home and ran wideband on its own power and ground source and don't have the problem anymore (shared power was probably effecting the gauge cause it needs its own 12volts to run gauge and sensor). I talked to a fellow aem tuner and he mentioned that being on a stock computer that my afr's are gonna bounce around when i give it a bit of gas and let off.
But with your problem holding it at ---- i would check your power source and make sure its a 12volt supply.
Did you air calibrate it before you installed it. Air calibrate meaning hang sensor in the air and turn key on (not turn car over) so wideband turns on and sensor heats up for 15min. or so?

Your gauge is working correctly as far as startup.... Ign on it will initialize which is P00. Then as the sensor warms up (it's heated) It will get progressivly leaner until it hits the --. Which means it's very lean. When you start the car it should go back to 12-13ish. At least that where mine likes to idle.
Try unscrewing the sensor from teh exhaust then plugging it back in. Blow on the tip of the sensor and watch the gauge to see if it moves....
Sounds to me like your just running your car lean....
When in doubt pull aplug and clean it. Then reinstall and let idle for 10-15 min. Pull plug again. Black is rich (duh)...
Or if you have an adjustable FPR ot some means of richening the car durring idle try richening it and watch the gauge...
Good luck.
