Alright, so as you know I purchased the DaveH kit with a PT61. Note now that I ordered a 7psi wastegate spring, and ran no boost controller.

Installed it, ran it for a few days, took it to the tuning shop. Now, I never hooked up my boost guage for lack of time and stupidity on my part.

Now, I boosted the car many times before i took it to my tuning shop.

Fast forward, the cars at the tuning shop. My tuner calls me and told me that he hooked my boost guage and took the car for a ride. He told me that the first time he hit second gear and gave it gas, he looked over and was building boost and was climbing past 12psi!

So, now im scared to death that I was driving under incredible amounts of boost, however, lucky for me the car seems to be undamaged and is still running just fine.

So, now im confused as hell. I thought a 7 psi wastegate spring meant that the exhaust gases were rerouted via dump-pipe when my boost hit 7 psi? Why the fuck am I boosting "skys the limit" basically right now?

I could have, and may have, nearly blown my motor for stupid mistakes...

Someone give me a thorough explanation on how this works, I just purchased a Greddy Profec B spec II to bring it down and to make sure it stays down.

First of all a boost controller can't bring down boost. It can only increase boost. The wastegate spring sets the base boost. That said the wastegate spring you got may not be a 7psi spring or mayby the wastegate is not functinig correctly(providing it is hooked up right)

did you change your headgasket, what injectors are you running?

Possibly some boost creep, or an issue with the wastegate actuator.....

Make sure the wastegate is not hook up up side down. Been there done that. I purchased 3 wastegate spings and almost purchased another wastegate due to the same problem you are describing, the problem was caused by incorrect installation of the wastegate.

Good call, I had forgot about that. This is how it should be mounted.

Yeah, i dunno. I wish i had the car here at my house to diagnose the problem.

The cars at my shop and they keep telling me a need a boost controller. I don't think thats going to help at all, because im sure the WG has something installed incorrectly on it...

Theres pics of how it looks.

Is it a problem if I keep the top of the wastegate open without a screw or something in there? (i was told that was where a boost controller connects)

The wastegate appears to be on the right way, and the vac line is on the correct port on the WG. The top should be open. I dunno, maybe you got the wrong spring. If you can check it, it should be red.

Yeah, im out of options. Basically has gotta be that spring... My shop is pressure testing it Monday, ill tell them to check and see if it's red.

I'm gonna be pissed if its the spring, but at the same time I hope it is so that I know that no mechanical errors were made on my part.

Anyways, ill let you know whats going on.

I know DaveH is a good guy, but he should pay more attention to little details when sending out his kit. You very well could have destroyed your motor or caused serious damage for him simply overlooking which spring he's sending you.

Yeah, supposedly he ordered a 7 psi spring, and Tial sent him the wrong one.

Either way, I just hope nothings going to be hurt at this point..He said this wasn't the first time they'd done this, so he'd probably just check each individual one from now on.

This is the second time I've had this happen. I'm not sure if the screwup is at Tial or at my vendor, but as I discussed with Johnny yesterday, I guess I'll take apart every wastegate I get and make sure what spring is in it.
