Well I took delivery of the car this past friday and guess what? The damn car wont start! Great weather and a car show I missed because of this crap.
Motor wants to start but is either not getting spark or fuel.
Updates will follow

Have you consulted the previous owner about this? Sounds like maybe the battery was reset...
SC2jzgte
10-09-2005, 06:35 PM
What do you mean the battery was reset?
Well I come to find out that with the AEM the car ran fine one day and then the next day it would start, sputter and then die. The day after that it would not start at all.
I re-installed the MAF and a 6-speed ecu but it still will not start. I'm pissed because the car is my daily driver and my folks are getting tired of me using their car.
I just dont have the money to have pay the dealership to fix it. There are alot of un-plugged connectors in the engine bay. I bought a frickin nightmare but its my fault for not making the previous owner get the car running 1st.
Overall the car is in excellent condition and looks bad-ass all lower'd and the black 18's w/black paint make it look like a stealth fighter! Especially the BIG almost polished looking IC hanging out the front is very :wackit: LOL!
I was told how to check for spark and was also told to listen for the fuel pump when trying to start it to make sure its working.
Any one here in Houston with an SC300 2jzgte swap who can help me find the problem?

What's the car tuned with?

I am trying run the a stock 6-speed ecu with MAF, not sure what you by "whats it tuned with"?

OK for the 3rd time there is nothing on the car such as S-AFC or anything its not need'd. Not trying to be an ass but if it had any of the tuning devices on it I would have mentioned it before.
The car should run just fine with the turbo upgrade, fuel controls are not necessary unless trying to run larger injectors.
Sorry I know your just trying to help  I'mjust bummed out!

Why should it need a fuel controller? The only thing changed was the turbo.
I was running a T66 on my MR2 Turbo and I did not need a fuel controller and the Supra is the same setup its just MAF instead of an AFM?

Oh now I see what you saying DOH lol! No I have enough knowledge to know about large turbos and a/f ratios.
I am just trying to get the car to STARTED thats where my problem lies at the moment.
Here is the scenario: The car ran fine on the stock twins and 6-speed ecu then the stock twins went south. They were replaced with the T78 and the car was driving fine and the the ecu was swapped for an AEM and ran fine on basic low boost maps.
Then the car one day would start, sputter and then die. The next day it would not start at all and this is where I am at right now. Compression check shows 170-180 across the board so thats why I am thinking the problem lies with the coils. The fuel rail is getting fuel.

Well I just said screw it and I am selling the POS!!! :madfawk:
Just kidding :fingersx: I decided to put in in our shop, pay for it not a free bee, and have our techs get it running. What piss's me off is the tech's are always crying about not making enough money or getting enough hr's and when someone offer's them some side work they dont want to do any!

Great news everyone my new mechanic got the car running and got everything fixed, it turned out to be just really crappy wire connections.
At the moment the car drives great per my mechanic except that it stall when you put it into neutral coming to a stop unless the rpm's are kept up. He says its running rich so he is adding an AFC, along with a BCC, so we can lean out the idle.
I will have it back in a day or two and then its off to get the "hookup ;)" on the inspection sticker since the car has a custom dual 3inch exhuast and no cats.
Friday will be 3 weeks since I got the car and I have not even driven it yet so yah I am getting pretty damned excited!
Gregg
PS, Then I can get alot more pics of it to show off.

take my advice get it tuned! any way shape or form get it tuned by a professional on the dyno espcially since you dont know what the previous owner did to the car

Whats to tune its completely stock except for the T78 so there is nothing to tune?
Engine has 500 miles on a fresh rebuild and compression is 170+ across the board.

A larger turbo changes the VE (volumetric efficiency) of the engine a LOT! Either don't run more than ~5psi of boost, or make sure you get the car tuned somehow. Otherwise odds are you are going to hurt the engine.
As a example, I had my car tuned for a PT72 GTQ turbo and when I changed to a GT4276 I ended up having to add almost 25% more fuel under boost. It makes a huge difference.

I know what you guys are saying but I am only running 10psi via the wastegate spring so I will be ok. I read of a few guys running 16-18psi on their T78's on a completely stock engine with no AFC's or anything.
My 1st mod will most likely be a WB and an AFC and I will get those tuned on the dyno for higher boost levels.
See 10psi is 10psi no matter what size turbo you are running. I was running a T66 up to 12psi on my MR2T with the stock 440's with not problems what so ever. The bigger turbo at the same boost level as the stock turbo will be more efficient do to the decrease in the thermal effect on the intake charge.
Anyway isn't the stock boost level on the TT 18psi with the stock twins?
I appreciate everyones input but I'm no fool haha!
Gregg
PS, Hey look at my siggy "TUNED BY TEAM SHIFT POINT", isn't that ironic!
Brown Duckz
10-27-2005, 10:57 PM
See 10psi is 10psi no matter what size turbo you are running. You are incorrect, 10PSI from a small single is not the same as 10PSI from a large single.
Anyway isn't the stock boost level on the TT 18psi with the stock twins? No your are incorrect, stock boost level is about 11 pounds.

Yah a wb and afc are gonna be my 1st mods and I am running an RPS sprung 6 puck with an Extreme pp.
Yah I know to take it easy on the w58 thats my biggest worry.

It can possibly be moved up an inch or two which I will be looking to do this weekend.
