I am building this car for a buddy of mine, we found it for $600 in "Running" Condition. I have always loved this body style, and this generation of Toyotas in general.

Above you can see the stock engine in all of its glory. Before you ask, no the 1JZ is not going to drop in. We are cutting part of the fire wall and tranny tunnel out and fabricating an entire new piece. The engine compartment is approx. 29.2 inches from firewall to the radiator, the 1JZ is very close to that number as well.

I got a MKIII Supra 1JZ w/ R154 to install in the car. We are fabricating a driveshaft, and mounting an AE86 rear end under the car. The factory rear end was tiny, didnt have lsd, had drum brakes, and likely had a number of other problems that were not worth dealing with.

We are trying to keep this as cheap as possible, I am using the stock front brakes from my SC as they are much bigger than the stock pieces on the corona. I am front mounting an eBay wrx top mount intercooler with custom end tanks.

This project is going to require an amazing amount of fabrication. Nothing is going to bolt right up and make life easy. Luckily I enjoy a challange, and the final product will be quite the machine. We are keeping it close to stock, a few BPU mods, anyways onto more pics....

I am just getting started on the build, I have my own project going on, a job, and a business to run so needless to say I don't have much time to dedicate to it. I will update this thread as I make more progress building this car!

this is going to be a bad ass ride bro if i was you i wont even try the ae86 rearend cuz you are wasting your time with it i would go ahead and fab a ford 8.8 or something like that cuz it will going to need it! even if its going to be a street car!

As an AE86 owner

I would not recommend using the factory 6.7" AE86 rear under that car with the power a 1J will put down, it will snap it like a tooth pick and destroy that R&P

My Ideal.. A cressida wagon rear end

Handles just as much power as a celica supra rear end BUT easier to find and CHEAPER.
And for LSD options the MKII Supra lsd slides right in.

So what happened here? Updates

Forgot about this thread! The project is getting A LOT more involved then I originally intended (doesnt that always happen?).

Utilizing the stock front crossmember and steering is not going to work at all with the 1jz. A Mustang II IFS complete front end has been purchased, and we are in the process of building a custom frame.

After several comments on the ae86 rear I am selling it, and buying something a lot beefier. It will be mounted to the frame with a standard 4-link setup.

I will get more pics when I have a chance! I do not think I will be completely done for a while though, haha!

Spare tire well and the gas tank is one piece in these cars, so I pulled it out and made room for a MUCH lighter fuel cell.
