I finally started my 1JZ project and I'm not sure where all the wiring goes... There are 2 empty slot in the JDM ECU and 2 open connetors on the harness. Can I just buy the connetors for the ECU and splice into the harness???

How can I check if the motor/harness and ECU match?

Hey CHino, you are the man! I forgot about that connector. I just ran out to take a pic of it. It doesn't fit into any slot in the kick panel or ECU... I'm frustrated and at a loss. Thanks for all the help.

yeah man I am so thinking of doing the swap but the damn wiring scares the shit out of me. My brother has a spare clip out in texas that he is willing to sell to me but he is not even bothering to help me wire it in. Lemme know what EXACTLY was done to wire the engine in.

wiring is plug and play as long (except the extension of course, piece of cake) as you have the right harness

what's so hard about it?

tutorial posted in this section as a sticky

How many plugs go into the body (Kick Panel) Only 1 connector fits from my harness.

IIRC on a soarer its 3 or 4

Update:

I visited 2 JDM Engine importers today with my harness and ECU on hand. Apparently, 1JZ come in 2 flavors.

1. Engine ECU, Engine Harness, Body Harness and Transmission ECU.

2. Engine/Transmission ECU, Engine/Body Harness.

It is unknown if the differences are caused by year or body code but....

The first 1jz set-up obviously has a separated harness (Body and Engine) and ECU (Engine and Tranny) and the second set-up where the Main ECU controls both the Engine and tranny with 1 harness that connects to all.

I was told that the 1st type of motor set is usually imported for 5sp swaps (SC300 or MKIII) since you dont need the complexity of the tranny ECU. And the 2nd set-up is a straight Auto swap.

Unfortunately I have the engine with the separate engine harness and the upgraded ECU. I am debating about changing my wire harness or selling the motor to a SC300 5sp owner and buying the correct set-up.

Thanks for all the help.

that doesnt make much sense...

Sure its not a JZX90 harness?

the 5-speed swaps on the SC300 and MKIII are completely different

the MKIII uses the JZA70 harness, the SC300 uses the Soarer harness... there are still other cars that came with the 1jz though

WHat is a JZX90? Is that from a chaser? Would I still be able to use this type of harness in my SC?

Yes and no. (unless you want to custom wire the entire harness)

Just save yourself the trouble and get the Soarer harness and ecu (unless the ECU you already have is for a soarer)

Two gray, two white and one orange.

Can someone expand on these "two flavors" of 1JZs, I'm about to get mine and that is scaring the hell out of me.

its simple... just specify that you want a 1jz soarer engine set. dont just call and say i need a 1jz. I got one in today and everything is fine.....
