Tuning (anything) can be difficult to do yourself, but it's really not that bad once you understand the priniciples of what you're trying to do. Even more so in the case where you are trying to tune conservatively (safe) rather than squeezing every last bit of power out of your setup.
If you are not going to tune it yourself then you need to consult with the person who will tune it for you. You want to buy whatever system for tuning they suggest (safc, aem, etc) because you don't want to reinvent the wheel. I suggest consulting with a few tuners, and get a price before you even buy any tuning device.
Keep in mind a solid tune can be done by a pilot/copilot team on a street safely (both driving and for the engine).

tuning map-cal software is relatively easy I've tinkered with it. The problem is your stock-ecu trying to "relearn" and fight the piggy-back tune. But here are some general guidelines I've picked up along the way: for spool, aim for 13:1 a/f, when boosting I wouldn't go leaner than 11.7:1 a/f. You don't have to tune each individual vacuum cell in boost, you can highlight a few and increase/decrease their value and just watch your a/f ratio as well as listen to the car to see how it reacts. You'll get the "feel" of it with practice, now get to tuning! :ugh2:

lol thats weaksauce, im going to tune myself with one of those little things called as a wideband.
being dependent on someone to tune your engine for you :jerkit:
I'v put in too much work to let some "experianced tuner" try and tune my engine on a dyno and hope he doesnt blow it up because he couldn't get the tune right after several hours and a ridiculous amount of money. Reputable tuners are hard to come by sometimes.

I retract my previous statement. this thing is very difficult to learn to tune.
It is all over the place and the basemaps they have, they are not even sure of the modifications done to the car for that base map.
I will have to figure it out, as all shops in my area refuse to tune a map ecu

I bought an AEM full standalone too which is going into my car this weekend.
I ditched the map ecu and have been running my car the past 2 months on an SAFC 2, couldn't be happier.
In my honest opinion, not only does the safc take 5 minutes to setup, It works pretty awesome except for the whole blow off to atmosphere thing.
It hasnt bothered me cause after i boost I just put it into the next gear for a second so when it goes rich it doesnt stall.

good to hear If you have the money I would go standalone but Motec not Aem since. The aem has been known to have a glitch. The backdraw of the Motec M600 ECU $3,148.....Motec M48 ECU $2,472.00 AEM EMS $1,829.10 and right now not alot of people tune the Motec besides Sound Performance, Titan Motorsports, and Jhon Reed.
