I have read the NA-T Basics thread and I’m clear on the differences between the 2jz-ge and the 2jz-gte. Both are 3.0 liter. But it says nothing about a 1jz which I think is a 2.5 liter. Hence my confusion. I was just going to turbo my 2jz-ge but so many are doing a 1jz swap. I must be missing something. Please excuse my ignorance but why would so many want to replace a 3 liter with a 2.5 liter?

TIA

its cheaper to buy the 1jzgte engine. Yes its 2.5 liter but it has potential. Considering its twin turbo you can always make alot of power with it.. the engine is supposedly been known to produce upwards of 1000hp. I myself was gonna turbo my 2jzge but due to it being high mileage and the need to rebuild it i scrapped. it was cheaper for me to just drop in a 1jzgte engine anyways.. and who doesnt love a low mileage engine.

So if you ever feel you don't have enough displacement, then that's an easy fix. Like mentioned above, a very cheap swap.....

A turbo engine is a turbo engine and despite what people do or say your ceilng for power will be greater with a turbo motor. Drive a 1j and make your own decision. Nothing against turbo kits but it will always be a turbo kit. And when you add it all up including electronics youll be right next to a turbo engine with price. It also depends on your skill level i guess.

Reason being is.... the na-t kit will need a full exhaust & some change in the tranny, either built or buying a soarer auto. The argument could go on forever, but I'm looking for a cheap initial cost to boost.
