View Full Version : Solid PT61/Pump Gas #'s

We took my SC to the dyno yesterday to work a few bugs out of my cruise maps and laid down what I felt were impressive #'s. I see some AEM users having issues with the idle, but i managed to get this thing purrin like a kitten. These #'s were produced on a mustang dyno, and were on straight 93. First pull was in the 460's and A/f was in the 9's. We leaned it out a little and added half a degree of timing and produced:
17psi- 504whp 418wtq
I was very happy to make 500 on pump with this little ass turbo...Heres a little info on the setup, and ill throw up the sheets as well as a little vid for yall tomorrow. Peak HP was made around 6600 and Peak Tq was around 5800ish if my memory serves correct. Thanks to Modified Motorsports for lettin my broke ass ust the dyno for a few hours for free.

some pretty good numbers but honestly i think you could pull a decent amount more power on a really good tune and a little more boost the 61 can make some alright numbers for what it is but even then 500 is very good for 17 psi maybe time for 26psi and some water/meth injection

when do you hit full boost with this turbo????? Thought about getting it myself

Mustang dyno# are lower than dyno jet# So his 500 whp would be several ten's of hp more on the dyno jet

Yah the Mustang has "proven" iopo (In other peoples opinions) lower than the DynoJet those are still impressive #'s! Props!
I think you can coax some more midrange torque out of it, personally... on the T61s you should be making almost the same amount of torque as horsepower...
timing and fuel tuning in the midrange have a lot to do with it, you're looking at nearly 100ft-lbs of increase if it were tuned correctly
NICE numbers tho... the spool-speed offered by the T61 is very nice and obviously the powerband is great :) When you REALLY gonna crank the boost up? :) To like 28-30psi? :D

Would that make sense with a t-61?
Would it still provide flow for the 2jz at those boost levels?
I will be using a t-61 myself but thought that going over 18-20psi would just be blowing hot air. dunno

People run 18psi on the stock twins, what are you talking about?I know what people run with stock twins, I don't care about stock twins.
Quention is, is 28-30psi efficient for a T-61? My guess would be that it is not.
Has anyone actually run a T-61 at that much boost and made power.
Data from the turbo map on the T60-1 reveals that its not a very good turbo for high boost like
a T66 is. The T60-1 can flow some decent CFM, but for some reason responds better to increased rpm than it
does by increased boost pressure ratios. On the turbo map, increased rpm moves data points to the right side of
the map. On the 2JZ with stock compression, there is ample reserve efficiency to the right side, but not much
to work with in the vertical (boost) axis. What this all means is that the T60-1 is a good candidate for around
18psi and very high rpm.

damn dude..500whp? thats insane, can some one tell me if ther is anything wrong with my numbers? i have the boost logic t61 kit with the boostlogic 2.5 mm hg, 525cc injectors, SAFCII, apexi gt spec exhaust , and lexus V8 AFM, the car was tuned at 15 psi due to bad spark plugs and put down only 360 to the wheels, does that sound right? i was hoping for atleast 400, im getting new plugs soon and hoping to tune at 18 psi, i just dont understand how my numbers are looking so much lower then everybody elses....?

Sounds like tuning issues. The big difference on his is the AEM. The AEM will make a bunch more power than stock for several reasons. Timing advance being the biggest.

Could be different exhaust housings, among other things.

Goodlord, that is amazing # at 17psi on PT61

Thanks yall! Although the effiency range drops off severely around 24 psi, youll still pick up power with the extra boost. Im gonna order the DLI today, and hopefully do some 28psi pulls this weekend :fingersx:
The car is still a monster! Developed a couple small boost leaks, broke a trans, but other than that, nothing major. It does have some misfiring sporadically at 19psi, hoping the dli clears it up.
Ravan- is your car an auto? If not you are def down on power. AEM will make a big difference, but my timing is very conservative. You may want to do a compression/leakdown test, monitor afr's, or perhaps use a new tuner?

Unfortunately not :(
I did however do some more driveability tweaking, and smoothed out my map a little....Managed to pick up almost another 80 ft lbs between that and turning up the boost to 21-22 psi on pump. I did install the dli, and tightened my gap to .023 and the car is feeling better than ever. High boost pulls are to come as soon as i get tired of how it feels now :)

I missed this post.
That is not a T61 compressor map. Thats a 60-1... completely different efficiency. There are people making 600whp+ on the T61 at high levels of boost.
On that map you show, the 60-1 falls out of maximum efficiency island at like 1BAR of boost above atmospheric...
Trust me, its set up for it :)
THIS is a T61 (notice, it doesnt fall out of the island until 2 BAR):

Its your SAFC and V8 MAF setup.... ditch it and go AEM!!!!
And to those of you who doubt the effeciency of the 61 - there is a guy here in atlanta who has a GTE setup with a 61 and makes 623whp at 26 or 28psi, i forgot the exact number. And the thing i love about mine is the spool and powerband.....

the lastest dyno on this thread shows a supra putting down 540rwhp on 18#'s and pump gas using only a safc, 525cc injectors, and a v8-maf. Apparently he has figured something out.
