View Full Version : Can't tune out a rich spot

I'm running a 95 NA-T SC300 with AFC Neo, Innovative WBo2, T-61, 3" intercooler piping, and HKS SSQV on the cool side (thinking about a second on the hot side as I still get some compressor surge). My MAF is not in blow through.

My car runs great at full throttle and below 20%. Above 20%, if I get into boost around 3000 RPM to 4500 or so, and I'm not wide open, the engine goes super rich and bucks and sputters. The AFR is around 8.5 when this happens. I've played with the low throttle map a lot and no matter how much fuel I take away, it always does this. It doesn't seem to matter where I adjust the hi throttle and low throttle settings. I even tried a new factory ECU, same exact problem. I can duplicate the issue by dropping it into second (auto) at around 50MPH and holding a steady throttle. It will buck and sputter for a while, then just clear up on its own - no change of load or throttle position.

I have read about "compressor stall" and how airflow into the turbo doesn't flow right under certain conditions. The solution is some honeycomb goodie in the intake. Anyone have experience with this or comments?

It's REALLY pissing me off because I can't accelerate moderately. Its to the floor or slow mode. I'd take it to a tuner but I had to pay for 3 surgeries this year and my budget in $0. Any suggestions?

if you are getting rich at wide open throttle why adjust the low fual map adjust the high fuel map and raise the high low throttle points. set it to 50 and 78%ish and see if that helps

WOT is good - about 11 or so AFR. It's part throttle that I get the issue. I have had the low at 45 and the high at 80, no difference. I have also adjusted the low to 20% and the high to 21%. No difference. It's almost like it ignores the throttle points completely. I wish I had a spare SAFC to test with...

did you set it to throttle setting up? are you setting it to the right car type. you have a maf still right? what turbo are you running and what fuel system?

I'm not sure I understood the first part of your question. Yeah, I set up the throttle so it's 0% when my foot is off the pedal and 100% when floored. Is that what you mean? Yeah, I still have the stock MAF, and the NEO is set for Karman. It shows a signal when I go through the tests, so I know its getting input. I'm running the T-61 on the 100% stock fuel system. Stock exhaust, HG, etc. Only mods are dual electric fans and an underdrive crank pulley.

Possibly related... if the car is hot and I shut it off then start it back up within 15 minutes or so, it runs horribly rich - like between 9 and 12 under all driving conditions. This condition will persist until the engine has cooled off a lot.

Do you think I need a new factory o2 sensor? I have tried a different used one - same symptoms. No CEL lights...
