First of, YES I HAVE SEARCHED. I am a member at Club NA-T, My-IS, and supra forums.

I have been on this forum for a little while and every day i read since i am getting ready to purchase a SC300 5spd.. Yet i have a few questions that people seem to go back and worth but yet i have not found an educated answer.
I am thinking on going NA-T and purchasing a GTE block to take my time building it. Then later on switching the tranny to the r154 and if i find a GTE head along the way to build outside the car ill probably buy it.

Does EVERY SC300's have Distributors or some models have Coil on Plug? I read on the supra forums that they came with COP :dunno:
Can i upgrade to a COP setup if i wanted too?
Is it true the distributor gets on the way of a bigger turbo?

Also i have decided to go NA-T for the simple fact (correct me if i am wrong) that the blocks are the same except the GTE has oil squirters.

-Rods and Pistons are the same, just the N/A has a thinner Head Gasket therefor higher compression? :dunno:
Many say the Pistons is one of the differences other then the squirters but wikipedia say they are identical.

Also, Oviously that the stock 5spd tranny is not the best choise when we expect alot of power. But How much power should a SC300 Stock 5spd tranny hold? (I know a few things come into play here, but i want to see a number in which people have got with them)

Which head flows better the GE or the GTE?
(I know on the DSM world, some of us rathered a NA head to port out and build since it had alot more material to port bigger runners and what not)

Sorry for so many questions but these are the only things unclear to me...
I am trying to balance out weather i should go NA-T or just purchase a GTE front clip with the r154 tranny and all and not waste any time.

If you know of any link or any information where i can go and read please direct me.

The pistons are definitely different. There is also talk that the VVT motors have different rods, as in the newer motors have weaker rods but the older 2JZ-GE's have the same rods. The NA piston rings are higher up on the side of the piston for emissions but the TT pistons are lower down on the piston to protect them from the happenings inside the turbo combustion chamber. I know searching sucks cause you get all this crap, but I do remember a post on my.is (from when it was is300.net) about all the differences. There are a few little things I believe. I've heard the W58 will hold 400-450hp. This is what my SC300 buddy has told me. But I know he was always afraid of breaking it and never beat it.

I'm not familiar with the diffrences between the GTE heads and the GE heads but I think it comes down to whether your car has VVT or not and whether the head you want to put on it is VVT or not. I don't think there is a big flow difference between them.

Oh ok, Yes is did come accross the Tranny thread on my-is.com, but for some reason everyone "say or expect" different numbers from it. I was trying to make sure people are not just talking out their asses like many tend to do.

SO i assume my idea is still the best. Buy a turbo kit for my NA and buy a GTE block and the r154 tranny. Build the GTE block outside the car and then switch my GE block for the GTE block + throw the tranny in and i will be golden for a good while untill i can build the head and upgrade the turbo and what not.

Thanks for the reply bro
Anyone knows about the Distributor or Coil on Plug theory?

COP came on the VVT-i motors. You cannot integrate COP on the stock nonvvt-i ecu. You'll have to get a standalone ECU or switch to the TT ECU. Yes, the distributor becomes a problem on bigger turbos. What turbo are you planning on running? What are you power goals?

I am not sure what VVT-i is but someone did mention that the 2jzgte motors come with COP.. Is this true or a false statement?

Also, LexusFTW do you ever get on AIM? i tried to PM you on AIM and you never seem to be online lol

VVT-i is variable valve timing (with intelligence!!!) . It's like Toyota's VTEC.

I like your idea. build the shortblock and tranny. Drive and enjoy the car while you do, and then swap it in. We all know less down time=more fun.

Yes, the 2jz-gte came COP.

Yes, I get on AIM. Usually late at night. Whats your SN?

my sn is KraZThug and yes i am usually on late at night.

So to my conclution.. get a 2jzGTE motor and you wont go wrong. Instead of switching and swaping parts from one to the other i should just get a complete 2jzgte swap and get it over with.

Also LexusFTW your car is just SiiCK!
