Welp, I finally added up all the numbers for my parts spreadsheet i've been making and I came to a realization. It will end up costing me the same at this point for a 1jz as it would to turbo my current GE.
All the parts i've bought so far for my NA-T swap I could still use for the 1JZ if i decided to go that route.
I really don't know what to do. On one hand, parts for the GE would be easier to find, but my GE is about to push 140k and as far as engines go I question it's health.
If I turbo my GE then I have to worry about getting coolers and beefing up the auto tranny and will still be limited to 325 or so rear wheel horses with a 6200 rpm redline.
If I go 1JZ then I dont have to worry about my tranny for a while, and get that sweet redline.
On the other hand if I turbo my GE aside from the tranny issue, i'm already single turbo...everything is all set and for the most part outside of my tranny problem, I want more horsepower I just crank up the boost or get a bigger turbo.
How reliable is the 1jz? I don't want my shit to break and not be able to find parts for it. And I need all the accessories.
This is part of the whole reason why I didn't rebuild my RX-7. Sure it was fast as balls, but no a/c, no p/s, and all of its harshness as well as the constant fear of, oh shit...if my engine craps out i'm screwed, just doesnt fit my current lifestyle.
I need that Toyota reliability too.
Help me out guys.
