Ill be cleaning everything up then bringing the piping off to paint. (Family friend does great work)

We will be treating etc then sprayed.

The stainless piping will be done in a candy apple red but a little darker or I might just do black idk yet

the Black piping will just get a black re-spray. Ill be buying new couplers later on too.

I'm storing everything in the back corner of the basement lol

ChrisGT

Well getting the bumper off was tedious haha not hard just loads of screws and hidden screws. OH and all those stupid clips everywhere grrr. Then the upper and lowers splash guard!!!!

Fun part = Sawzall :)

Here we go!

Bumper off with both splash guards exposed:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff57/ChrisGPGT/IMG_1117.jpg

Hood latch support cut out. I decided to not just cut it in half and just cut out the amount needed and leaving it somewhat in tact:

Top:

Bottom:

How she sits now:

Intercooler mounted:

http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff57/ChrisGPGT/IMG_1126.jpg

Tomorrow I get to cut some more and mount up the piping etc.

Should I keep those tubular plastic forms behind the upper grill?

ChrisGT
02-15-2009, 07:07 PM
Well I did a test mount on the piping.

Cut the frame where needed. Cut the tow brace and some fender support too.

Came out nice

I will be doing a final coat on the pipes. I just did a quick one for fitment and to get an idea of how it would look.

What are you using for engine management

ChrisGT
02-17-2009, 11:46 AM
I went over it on the thread. Joe pretty much said it all since this type of engine has been around for ages they have pretty much were able to create and interface that works as a piggy back for my PCM. My PCM comes stock on all GM's and pretty much allows for tuning on every level from MAF to MAP to trans shit points and throttle position.

Coming along nicely. When do you think it'll be ready?

ChrisGT
02-23-2009, 08:07 PM
The XS Power Tial went on today freakin rigid spring in that thing like impossible to push open by hand lol. Just needs a tune but weather has to be good to put her on the dyno... FWD and all so the door has to be open..... anyways either wed or thur she should be done. If weather permits of course.

ChrisGT
02-24-2009, 06:41 PM
Tune tomorrow and she is done! I have to sand and re spray the pipes but!

Whats that you slipped over the inlet of the turbo?

ChrisGT

A pretty thick mesh like material. It wont break apart either. Made into a cone like shape.

ChrisGT
02-27-2009, 01:14 AM
Well here is a preview. Little Before and After. Tomorrow we up the boost some more.

Only thing is the BOV spring seems really stiff. Below 5k rpm's it doesn't open much. Idk we shall see.

Btw SDCE is doing the tuning on her.

What a difference! What did it make?

jcat_GS3
02-27-2009, 03:40 PM
^^ currently made 260whp, a good jump from the 160 or so. Some bugs within the tuning software have been fixed and shes now on the street. I'd say probably 280 or 290hp by now. That's at 9psi.

Get some pics doin' a burnout!

ChrisGT
02-27-2009, 07:21 PM
Sure and you know what meanwhile Ill vid my diff evacuating my car lmao

I got it up to 280ish whp and then we lowered it back to 265 till I get my HD Diff.

Ugh the BOV is giving me compressor surge. And not a little surge either. Like the BOV blows off and with my hand infront of the inlet I feel like a blow drier... At WOT it blows off pretty well but at mid load (4.5-5k) and stuff its horrible

Any tips? Its the XS Tial BOV. Cut spring? Heat it? Swap with a real tial spring?

^ That sucks. You just put it back together and now you can't drive it!

With the BOV, I'd cut the spring before anything.

ChrisGT
03-02-2009, 11:40 AM
Oh I drove it without the bumper just didn't park anywhere haha.

Ill take a look at the spring how many rings should I cut off?

I like your garden! that's bad ass. who says piping doesn't grow on trees....

for the BOV surge issue, make sure you are getting a good solid vacuum signal right off the manifold, don't tee it with anything else.

make sure you have a very rigid line and that it is sealed well.

spray some silicone lube into the bov (from the vacuum nipple on the BOV) - sometimes they are sticky at first.

IF this does not resolve the problem, you can cut off a coil or two, but I prefer to heat and weaken the spring.

PM me if you are still having any problems.

I did not see this thread, man that is a really nice setup, I love it. With boostbrothers here now, we should hopefully start seeing more of these American setups!

Ya lol I was like how can I dry these hmmm oh I know hahaha

Ya I probably have to buy a vac block since I only have 1 vac like I can T into. It just feels like it wants to close to quickly. Its getting a little bit better now that it is wearing in but sometimes I still hear BOV then air coming out the turbo...

Does XS make vac blocks?

I ran the XSPower bov on my brothers civic and I noticed that low boost it did the same thing. Once we turned up the boost it opened and closed super like it was supposed to. The spring is a little stiff for low boost. Even the standard Tial did the same thing. If you don't feel like spending any extra money I'd just heat the spring. If money isn't an issue id get the tial 4psi spring and it'll be perfect.

I don't think XS makes vac blocks.........but it'd be a good idea. How about it Mark?

ChrisGT
03-02-2009, 05:40 PM
I know the Tial 7-9psi springs are fine for my car loads of people run in that range. Its weird though at low psi it flutters fine but med psi it flutters then stops and I hear air flow out the inlet...

Nice setup. How much more psi can you push through that engine ?

ChrisGT
10-25-2009, 07:34 PM
Its been a while but I'm Back.

1st note stock bottom end can take 700+ I mean completely stock everything bottom end. Stock bottom end got ZZP into the low 9's.

I boosted 17psi before I popped my tranny. I beat a dropped pulley 03 cobra and the next day it went pop chains snapped, torque converter popped, and Diff grenaded haha.

I'm shooting for 500whp over this winter. Stock Fuel Pump will push me into 450whp with a rewire. After that Walboro 255

I can make around 450whp on this tiny 61 then I will jump to a 67 for 500whp+

I'm pulling the motor in about a week. We has to extend the driveway to fit my project car and a parts car I just squired to help fund the build.

I was doing the whole twincharge thing but tuning is a bitch and a half so screw that lol.
