View Full Version : Running meth VS. FMIC and HG?

Hey all. I've been hearing mixed opinions about running Meth Vs. FMIC in terms of cooling and pressure drop, and also running meth vs. a thicker HG/lower compression in terms of detonation resistance.

I'm just looking for some input before I decide to go one way or the other. For reference, I'll be running no more than 12-14psi by the end of things, 7 or 8 to begin with.

As far as running meth vs FMIC. I tried it and ditched the setup. yes it will decrease lag but an intercooler is sooo easy to install and has been proven again and again over the years to be an effective way of cooling the intake charge.

^^ now see, i've heard the opposite only because an FMIC can only cool to ambient temp unless you're at speed. I know it's really easy to install, you don't have to keep refilling meth etc. etc.

You're correct. The FMIC will only cool to ambient. That's why I'm running both ;)

that would be pretty awsome if you clocked the turbo and had it running strait into the TB. just put meth with it and run like 8psi. it would be like a supercharger! lol.

My old setup...

haha dont forget about our bitchy maf though. Youd probably have to clock it so that you have an elbow running to the maf and at least 6" of pipe between TB and maf

ditch it nd get a map sensor. throw the BOV right on the end of the turbo, and u have like 4 inches of intercooler piping total since it wouldnt line up perfectly. you would have to do a little "S" bend type thing. but that would be awsome.

LEXUSFTW what psi and HP #'s were you doing with that? were you injecting strait meth or a water / meth mix?

cause on my daily driver gs300 i might actually consider doing this in the future at like 8spi max. and thats when i have another supra and i can just take my intercooler and piping off the GS and use it on the FUN weekend car. but my daily i dont boost to much and am only looking for a little extra kick in the pants when i need it!

I never had the car dyno'd with that setup. I ran around with it like that for a month or two and decided that a FMIC + Meth injection would be ideal. I'm running an 80/20 mix with an M12 nozzle. I was running two M10s with no FMIC.

what psi were you at? and roughly take a guess at power. just something to think about im saying.

So basically if I run a meth/fmic I wont need to install my thicker HG and be able to run 14psi no problem?

The car wasn't tuned so I never got into boost.

Theoretically yes, but you should watch your knock and a/f to make sure everything is safe (assuming you're running a standalone to adjust timing).

If you're on stock computer with stock timing and for some reason your pump fails at 14psi with stock HG, you'll be looking for a new motor.

Alright I guess I'll install it, the damn thing has been sitting in my trunk since May

its a bitch of a job, but doable. i hated doing my headgasket, it took 2 days and just sucked. but that was in my old supra not the vvti, so i dont know if its any different

if you need some help and have a garage, i would come and help out alittle. should be able to do it in a weekend max.
