Cam gear question

Guys I had a question about cam gears. I was talking to my buddy who owns the local shop today and he said that I can pick up some power by putting an adjustable cam gear on my car. What gains have you guys seen from this and which one would you recommend. He was tuning an IS300 Turbo and he said when he bumped the cam a few degrees (can't remember which one) he really saw the power come up. Ant help appreciated.

Must have been the exhaust.
