View Full Version : Whine noise + Vacuum problem?

I put the 2nd ground wire underneath a nut from the ecu metal floorboard nut and wallah she starts and idles a little. So, she's breathed her first breath! :woohoo: However, there is this insane high pitched consistent whine coming somewhere from the car and I cannot trace it. As the rpms increase, the "sqeak" gets louder and the map-ecu shows the vacuum becoming more negative. Can someone please help me ascertain what is causing it?
Video Evidence (I did not press the throttle during the video, the idle difference happens automatically and it seems like the increase in rpms is caused by more negative vacuum):

Did you install a thicker headgasket? I had a similar problem and it was caused by the timing belt idler pulley.

thats a tough one man i think the only times i've heard similar sounds is when either the serpentine belt is either too tight or too loose OR if the power steering was really low, but it still doesnt account for low vacuum. how many inches of mercury are you reading at idle. im sure it fluctuates so i should say whats the range it goes between.

rich idle...probably flooded the engine:

I'd bet money thats a BOV leaking.

I'd bet money thats a BOV leaking. You know, I also had suspicions of the BOV leaking too..all my intake mani bolts are really tight.. So, whats the fix?
A very rich map got it to idle the best so far:

Talking to you on aim. Check to see if you have a red rubber oring between the bov and the flange.

Unsure. Might want to search for the HKS manual for it online.

If a super rich map got it to idle the best, then it means that the car was running to lean to run correctly right? That means it has a leak in the intake somewhere. Its sucking up extra air through a leak and its causing the mixture to go sour.
You need to find out where in the engine bay its coming from. A good way to test the BOV is to spray WD40 on the BOV while its running. If the car's idle changes then it means there's a leak there.
