if you press the noise pedal all the way down the car goes into open loop.

closed loop is the engine control with 02 sensors being backup source to adjust correct fuel mixture. Open loop is when ecu ignores o2 signal. In order to put a car in open loop you can disconnect your o2 sensors. As drnick said, your car will be in open loop when you go WOT and thats why we tune safc 98% of throttle and above, othervise o2 sensors would fight safc adjustments. I was always wondering what could be wrong with forcing car to run in open loop?

so on the throttle settings on the safc were it says lo and hi thottle you put the hi at 98 and what do you put the lo at. thanks for your input really helpful, ive been using a afc on a couple of cother cars and i didnt know that.

you put low at %97 sorry it took me soo long to reply. Now that I got my car running and stuff I went out to tune it out with my neo. My car needs tune at way lower throthle points than %98 and when boost hits its still at 14.7 AF. So what I did I used both low and high throttle settings to make things right. As I talked about ecu fighting safc settings, that was what I heard from other people and I want to see it for my self wsp with it. It depends from car to car at what point it switches from closed to open loop when you go WOT, every car and their sensors are calibrated differently, even from factory.

This is what sucks about our cars, I also had to tune lower throttle points, I assumed closed loop would tune itself. Not the case in mine, can any1 even confirm that closed loops fights SAFC changes? Also around what rpm at 98%+ throttle requires fuel to be pulled and not added

yes the ecu will fight safc settings in closed loop. I keep my safc2 at 97(L) and 98(H) and have made adjustments accordingly.

I've disconnected my O2 sensors to force my car into open loop at all times. It will change your short term fuel trims in closed loop. So unless you are forcing your car into open loop there is no point in setting lower rpm/throttle points. When in open loop the car will run on the long term fuel trims. Long term should not change so you can actually piggy back them.
You can also add an O2 simulator if you are worried about having the CEL on. I gave up a long time ago on keeping my CEL off though. I finally just pulled the bulb.
