View Full Version : GTE Internals?

Hey guys I am upgrading my current set up so that I can raise the boost from .5 bar to 1 bar. So far I have a 2mm head gasket and ARP head studs (not installed yet). My question is should I upgrade to GTE internals too? If so, why? Thanx :)

Why wouldn't you just swap over a GTE block?

I'm in Germany right now (US Army), so shipping would kick my butt. Shipping internals would be a lot cheaper. BTW if I swapped my internals would my block be considered the same as a GTE block?

Hey
I would tell you to just lower the compression with the headgasket but the vvti 2jz-ge motor sucks. The rods and the pistons are not as stong as the non vvti motors and they should be changed besides lowering the compression. The gte motor is so overpriced. The best you are going to do with the vvti motor turbocharged with no oil ring problem is 375 to 425 rwhp tops before you blow the motor... So if your not looking to bore your motor .020 over with new aftermarket piston then the standard bore swap with the gte stuff you should be good.

I have a quick question on top of that. Lets say i put in GTE internals with 2mm gasket and 440cc injectors. Do I need standalone or some kind of ECU to run correctly after changing compression and such? I have TE black box right now for my piggyback, but I want to boost more, so your help is appreciated guys!

I personally would not do the GTE pistons with a 2MM HG... I would use the GTE headgasket.
I just rebuilt my motor with GTE internals, and waiting for my GTE HG... All hardware is ARP.
here ya go!.. Left one of the stockers in for comparison sake..

i know this is old, but i rather ask this question here than start a new thread, if i were to get a 2jz gte block, does it matter what year block it is? i have a 02 is300 i dont know i've heard that the mounts are different, i rather ask before i buy a block, thanx in advance.

01 internals are better than 02+ on the IS300 GE bottom end.
Rods are thicker.

only the rods are thicker. not the piston rings and ring landings.

why do you say you wouldn't use a 2mm HG with gte internals?
also aside from the pistons/rods and oil squirters, if i use your set up, ge block with gte internals, is it safe, i hear that the oil squirters are the most important role, i kinda want to go your route

i would like to know the answers to these questions too.

If you use GTE pistons, just get a GTE head gasket as well. The pistons lower the compression enough that you don't need the extra thick headgasket.
i would like to know the answers to these questions too.

I have one question....Are the GTE internals forged, cast or hyperutectic? Or maybe something else. I always thought the pistons were hyperutectic but a friend of mine just told he looked it up and found it to be forged.

You have absolutely no clue what your talking about do you? Allow me to point out your stupidity.

Since when? You need to look around

Wrong again

Your way off way way way off by at least 300-400 HP you have no clue what you just said.
why did i point out your stupidity? Because youshouldnt answer when you have no clue it could end up causing someone else who has no clue to think that is their answer and doing something stupid to their car.

whats the GTE Head Gasket Part Number From Toyota?
is there a difference between oil pumps on GE and GTE?

Actually, you're wrong, too. He's talking about vvt-i vs. the non vvt-i 2JZ-GE.
The NON vvt-i GE's rods are thicker, and there for stonger. I have to agree with you, though, that the vvt-i GE does not "suck", but it is, from a durability standpoint, inferior to the 2JZ-GE non vvt-i. As for the "you're off by 300-400hp" comment, you're mistaken, or really REALLY misread what he meant. The stock 2JZ-GE VVT-i motor will not hold 650-850bhp (unless your REALLY f'in lucky or something). This is due to the thinner vvt-i rods.
The NON vvt-i GE and GTE rods are the same... well, same thickness and all, not sure if they're the exact same. The main advantage, to the best of my understanding, for putting the GTE shortblock in is A) oil squirters in the block, and B) don't need to break down the motor completely, just break it down to the shortblock.
PS - please don't be calling people stupid, that's just plain rude.
