View Full Version : What is it about the FIC not working with OBDI Supras?

Seriously, my info is outdated and I have only turbo'd 2 OBD2 cars in my life. I recently picked up a 94 JDM SZ which uses a MAP sensor instead of a MAF. Will the FIC work for me? Can you actually adjust the timing on the Sz's distributed timing system? And, if it doesn't work, I really can't figure out why it wouldn't? Fooling OBD2's require much more work than an OBDI.....

To massively simplify this
distributor's are mechanically ran
Coil Packs are signal ran
Thats not to say the Fic wont work on an OBD1 2JZ. Just that your timing control is lost. But keep in mind the FIC only allows the user to retard timing, something you are able to do with a distributor yourself. Granted it doesnt allow the level of control, but you still have fuel correction.

I was thinking the same thing, rotating the cap, thus retarding the timing across the band, but maybe using a vacuum canister to "re-advance" the timing under vacuum/narrow throttle. Does that work?

anythings possible, older GM distributors had vacuum advances built into them.
Honestly you have two viable options available to you.
Retard timing to a safe value, tune for fuel. Tune utilizing a Wideband AFR, EGT, and knock sensor.
Go to Coil on Plug setup with a standalone.
