Short shifter question

Okay, so, I decided on the Apex N1 for the exhaust. Both my distributor and boss say it's going to sound good on the N/A, as well as many members here. I also think I'm going with the GReddy front lip for the only body mod I'll ever do (until the LS6 anyways.. NEW HOOD)

My question now is, I see listings for C's and TRD short shifters; I'm sure there are other companies also, but I'm trying to determine HOW SHORT it's going to be. Now, the Steeda Triax and the B&M shifter for the GT are SHORT. Like, UNCOMFORTABLY short. I can't tell what gear I'm in, they're too tight, etc. I like a *little* bit of play in my shifter. I don't do heavy racing, I just think this is the natural next step of progression for mods for the car.

Who has a short shifter, what company do you have, and HOW short is the throw?

I have the TRD Quick Shifter and well the difference in shifting is like night and day as others have said. It isnt really short but a little taller than the usual shifter but it feels great. After a while the height of the shifter wont bother you. All in all i love mine.

I'm just looking for the throw difference. I wish I had more vehicles to compare it to, but all of the stuff I've driven with an SS that wasn't an Acura product was a domestic, and I'm fairly certain theirs are just flat different from ours.

I just don't want to buy it, install it, and then realize that I fucking hate it.

Stock is fine for me.

Ugh. There has to be more than one person who has a sodding SS.

That's exactly what I was looking for. Domestic short shifters are all so damn uncomfortable for me, but I don't know how many or which imports tend to feel the same way. I know Honda/Acura doesn't, but I've been told Mitsubitchi DOES, so. No idea.

Anyways. That's enough info for me. *goes to buy one*

Ditto...TRD here too and its just amazing. Much cleaner and solid shifts than the stock one. Although the 93.5-95 5spd shifters are short as well, but the throw is about normal.

TRD wins in my book. never seen or tried a C's...thats about all the short shifters for the 5spd

custom here took my shifter out and had the lower portion cut and extended 1.2 cm to increase the leverage of throw. I went uptop and sectioned off 2.3 cm out of the upper portion in the center. Rewelded everything and grinded it down. Finally I cryotreated it and installed new bushings with a new gasket for shifter on tranny. Called it quits and it has not broken or given me grief. It is extremely short and it feels great. When I say short i mean probably about 70% shorter. Its more like a sequential betwn 1,3,5 and 2,4,R.

Good luck on the shifter and mine only cost me about $35
